SPANISH PROPERTIES

It might seem on obvious thing to write but obviously those of you who are reading this are interested in Spanish properties. Some of you might be interested in buying a Spanish property or maybe you just like looking.

With some people it's shoes and others it's cars or motor bikes. When I was growing up in Castleford, West Yorkshire in the 1950's I used to pass Rodgers bike shop on my way home from school every day. This emporium of dreams was in the fork in the roads between Pontefract Road and Ferrybridge Road. I used to drool over the shiny racers with drop handlebars. Gosh but life was much simpler in those good old days of rickets and impetigo and polio. Kids going to school with calipers on their legs - or purple patches on their heads - the poor little bu.... I'm digressing am I not? Where was I? Oh yes - Spanish property.

There is no harm in looking at all and the point of the 1950's nostalgia was to illustrate how times have changed. Who would have thought that little kid who was leaving trails of saliva et cetera down Rodgers bike shop window would have the slightest inkling where the heck Spain was, let alone have anything to do with trying to sell Spanish properties.

There have been many bargains over the decades and lots of people have had idyllic life-styles and maybe extended their retirement to boot. Those bargains that were to be had yesteryear still exist if you know where to look. We at Dos Mares homes know where to look for you. You might be very pleasantly surprised.

If you want to buy your Spanish property from a big company - great - go ahead with our blessings. However if you want somebody who willl look in all Spain's nooks and crannies - why not give the little guy a try. You'd have a laugh if nothing else!

    • Property in Spain

Property in Spain is like property anywhere - it varies widely.  There is pretty much something to suit everyone's budget from a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment to villas with every conceivable luxury.  You can have a panoramic sea view or be looking across vast valleys.  The latter is more readily available and considerably cheaper.

    • The problem is usually that you cannot afford what you want and don't want what you can afford.  However, as I have said before there can always be a compromise and a solution.  If you are willing to be flexible with your type of property and particularly your location, you will find something you like and can afford.

    • When my wife and I bought our first property in Spain, we compromised by moving ten miles inland.   We have subsequently moved  further inland to gain a huge garden and views which we will never tire of looking at.  The price we have paid for this is the weather.  It is, on average, three degrees cooler up our mountain than it is on the coast.  We feel the cost is worth it.

    • Heating is a must in some of these inland areas and don't let people kid you otherwise.  In winter, the temperature often reach 21 degrees C through the day but once the sun goes down it does get chilly.  Many new properties in Spain are now being built with central heating and air-conditioning already installed.  You won't find this necessary in southern coastal regions but any property built in an elevated position is going to need heating from February through to March.
